So for this blog, I decided to do the scene where Holden meets the nuns. This is an important scene in the book for many reasons. First, he actually ends up liking the nuns. Up to this point in the book, he had yet to actually like someone or something. Finally, he meets people that he can't criticize just because they annoy him or are phonies. The nuns were genuine people and he almost admired that.
This part goes against almost every motif and textual echo we've developed throughout the book. The only echo it follows is that he invited them to have a drink, which seems to be what he asks every person he sees. It's almost creepy how many people he talks to and asks to have drinks with him. Holden talks about phonies, again, but this time it was in a different manner. He said that the nuns weren't phony and he even gave them money for charity.
I wish that this had developed Holden's character, but he just reverts back to old thoughts instead of judging people in a nice way. Phonies phonies phonies... blah blah blah. He needs to understand that the world is not full of phonies and fakes. Also that he isn't going to get along with every person he meets. Holden should give people a chance, maybe then he would have friends or even a girlfriend.
At the end of the scene, Holden accidentally blows smoke in the face of the two nuns, and felt incredibly bad about it. This may symbolize his life. Anything he likes, turns out to be something fake, or phony. This could be why he judges everyone and doesn't let them into his inner circle. He could just be afraid of losing someone he cares for, like Allie. He cared for him more than almost anyone in the world, and then he passed away. Holden could definitely have some psychological issues at hand.
My only question is why did Holden open himself up to the nuns and not anyone else he met?

Santa
So, I don't know if this is just me, but I'm starting to get annoyed with this book. Holden is driving me insane. His repetitive words and phrases, his constant need for friends, even his sarcastic sense of humor drives me crazy! Maybe he wouldn't be depressed if he tried to think more positively about things and not psychoanalyze everything and everyone around him.
I can understand why serial killers read this book because slowly and surely, this book could depress even the most happy of people. Like santa or happy the dwarf.

The Meaning Behind My Life
Hey class!
My name is Karali Fedor and I'm graduating in about 39 days. Whoo hoo! Next year, I plan on attending UW-La Crosse so I can obtain a degree in biology with a biomedical emphasis. Hopefully when it's all said and done, I can start my own Chiropractor business or possibly work in a lab doing stem cell research.
I enjoy art, even though I'm not the most creative person I know. Perhaps thats because I surround myself with artistic geniuses or something. One thing I am proud of though is my piano playing ability. I have been playing since first grade and I would consider myself to be fairly decent. There is something about music that just hits a soft spot in me. Any time I hear someone playing the piano or singing a beautiful song, it's all I can do to keep myself from gawking in the doorway like a freak.
Currently, my throat is closing up due to allergies (I think) so if I pass out in class, please check my airway. If that is too much, then call 911 and hopefully they will know what to do. Thank you.
For those of you who don't know, I was a captain of the McFarland girls swim team this year and I managed the boys swim team. When I wasn't baking treats for the boys, I was being thrown in the pool or playing subject to the many jokes cracked by members of the team. But, even though this sounds like a bad thing, I wouldn't ever take it back. Because believe it or not, those two months continuously spent with about 30 boys ended up to be one of the most entertaining things I've ever done.
As you can tell, I really like to swim, but that is not the only hobby I have. One of the best things about my lifestyle is how much I travel. My family and I go on two or three big vacations a year. For spring break we went to Key West and this summer we are going to Las Vegas. (I'll finally be 18, but that doesn't even matter. You have to be 21 in order to get into the casinos) I'd have to say my favorite vacation was last summer when my family and I went on a two week vacation to Europe. We went on a cruise to France and Spain the first week and spent the other week in Italy, Austria, and Germany. Europe has a completely different feel to it, and I enjoyed observing their cultures and traditions.
Anyway, enough about my life. My favorite book is Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom. I originally was assigned to read The Five People You Meet In Heaven when I discovered that I really liked the writing style of Mitch Albom. I ventured further and read Tuesdays with Morrie and fell in love with the book. The number one reason I liked it was because of all the morals given throughout the text. I thought it described an amazing way to live life, and because of that, I feel like I have become a better person. It's kind of cheesey, I know, but I would recommend that book to everyone because I believe that everyone has the right to live life to the fullest.
